Temple University is expanding its opportunities for students abroad. The Temple Rome campus recently announced the addition of Bachelor degree programs, allowing students to begin and complete their studies entirely on this campus.

Previously, Temple Rome only provided students with single-semester study abroad opportunities, as well as the Temple Rome Entry Year Program. This program allows first-year students to study at Temple Rome for a full academic year before continuing on to the main campus in Philadelphia, or one of the Temple campuses in Japan. Now, Temple students have the option to stay in Rome for all four years.

In partnership with five of Temple’s schools and colleges, including the Fox School of Business, the Temple School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, and the Klein College of Media and Communication, Temple Rome will integrate 18 different four-year undergraduate degree programs, including International Business; Global Studies; Italian Studies; Communication; and Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management.

This change is taking place as soon as the Fall 2026 semester. Temple Rome is also celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2026, and the program expansion is a significant indication of the university’s growing global offerings and identity.

Temple Rome also recently opened a new campus at Piazza di Spagna. The plaza is a prominent landmark within the Historic Centre of Rome, a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site. Temple is allowing students to not only to experience another country, but to be engrained in a city so full of heritage and history, and now to be able to do so for a longer period of time.

“Our expansion of Temple Rome’s curriculum is the natural next step,” explained Emilia Zankina, Dean of Temple Rome and Vice Provost of Global Engagement. Zankina is also a GPA Board member. “We are providing a pathway for both U.S. and international students to earn an accredited U.S. degree while living and learning in Rome, a place where ancient history and modern Europe converge. Immersion in this rich global setting is the perfect way to prepare students for success in an international career.”

The university has also done so through Temple University Japan (TUJ), which has campuses in Tokyo and Kyoto, and offers four-year degree programs. TUJ has expanded drastically over the past few years, and this has indicated an invigorated interest by American students to complete their education abroad. Temple hopes to meet this need and develop the Rome programming so that it can mirror the success of its sister international campus.
