Global Philadelphia Association Hosts 2022 World Heritage City Celebration, Honoring Philadelphia’s 7th Anniversary as the First World Heritage City in the United States


Held on “Solidarity Day of World Heritage Cities”, the celebration will honor the global impact of MSNBC anchor, Ali Velshi, and support World Heritage partners in Ukraine with 10% of net proceeds being donated to support the World Heritage City of Lviv.

WHAT: Global Philadelphia Association (GPA) celebrates Philadelphia’s 7th anniversary as the first World Heritage City in the United States. The 2022 World Heritage City Celebration will join 330 other global cities in marking “Solidarity Day of World Heritage Cities,” honoring global heritage and the impact they have had on their respective regions. 

GPA will bring together a collection of civic leaders, community leaders and young professionals to pay special tribute to Ali Velshi, a Kenyan-born, Canadian native, and globally educated MSNBC news anchor. Velshi will be speaking at the World Heritage City Celebration about his global and cultural perspectives through his accomplishments and experience covering global impact topics such as the War in Ukraine, the Syrian refugee crisis, the Iran Nuclear Deal, the COVID-19 pandemic and more. GPA will also award Velshi with a Globy Award for Distinguished Journalism. 

As Philadelphia is home to one of the largest populations of Ukrainians in the United States, Global Philadelphia Association will support World Heritage Partners in Ukraine, home to seven World Heritage sites, by donating 10% of net proceeds the World Heritage City Celebration to the World Heritage City of Lviv.
