This lecture will discuss the life and work of the celebrated Philadelphia astronomer, mathematician and clockmaker David Rittenhouse. Emphasis will be on his clocks, but his myriad other activities will also be considered. 

Registrants may attend onsite at 1300 Locust Street, Philadelphia PA 19107 or via Zoom webinar. The Zoom link will be sent to all registrants the day of the program. 

For onsite attendees, a selection of Rittenhouse and clock-related documents from HSP's collection will be on display. 
 

About the speaker:

Donald L. Fennimore graduated from the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture in 1971. Following that, he spent thirty-four years on the curatorial staff at Winterthur, during which he authored a number of books, the most recent of which was David Rittenhouse Philosopher-Mechanick of Colonial Philadelphia and His Famous Clocks.
