Art with Tosca : The Making of the Louvre
Long before it became the world’s most visited museum, the Louvre stood on the banks of the Seine as a medieval fortress, later transformed into a royal palace and, finally, into the cultural heart of France. Its walls have witnessed centuries of political intrigue, artistic patronage, and revolutionary change, all of which shaped the extraordinary collection it houses today.
This lecture traces the Louvre’s fascinating evolution, from its origins in the Middle Ages to its grand opening as a museum after the French Revolution. Alongside this sweeping history,
French art historian Tosca Ruggieri will guide you to works of art often missed by hurried visitors, quiet treasures that tell their own surprising tales and reveal the genius of artists across the ages.
