Location:
Website:
https://www.phillysuns.org/ The Philadelphia Suns is a nonprofit volunteer organization centered around supporting the Asian community in Philadelphia through athletics and community service.
Originally founded as a basketball team in 1972, for the past 40 years they have been serving the community and expanding to include volleyball teams, Lion ance teams, as well as community service efforts. They also provide technology programs, a youth development program, and scholarship opportunities.
According to their website, their mission is to promote, organize, and support athletic, cultural, recreational, and educational opportunities for anyone who wishes to participate.
They have multiple ages for the basketball team, ranging from 12 and under to adult teams. The season starts after Labor Day and ends when they participate in the Northern American Chinese Basketball Association’s (NACBA) Invitation Tournament Memorial Day weekend. In addition to practice, the members are also expected to participate in community service.
Their volleyball program includes both men and women teams, and acts as a way to further connect the Chinese American community in Philadelphia.
Leading up to Lunar New Year celebrations, the Lion Dance team is welcome to anyone wishing to learn.
