A career diplomat since October 1, 2001, Mabel Segura Fernandez is a lawyer by profession and has extensive experience representing Costa Rica both abroad and within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She has held positions at the Embassy of Costa Rica in Honduras as Minister Counselor and Consul General; at the Directorate General of Foreign Policy as Coordinator for International Organizations; and as Consul General at the Consulate General of Costa Rica in Los Angeles, California.
