United States Global Leadership Coalition: Furthering Security and Diplomacy
Based in Washington D.C., the United States Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) is a bipartisan nonprofit connecting leaders and businesses in the pursuit of educating the public and policy-makers about civilian-led diplomacy. The organization is passionate not only about maintaining the United States’ place as a global partner for many nations, but also ensuring that America’s international work serves the American people.
While 13% of the United State’s federal budget is dedicated to national defense, only 1% is devoted to international affairs, making the USGLC’s work all the more important. It exists to advance the prosperity of the U.S. as a leader in international markets and economic development, as well as creating more opportunities at home. It also champions the nation’s growth and influence in various sectors including national security, international development, global health policy, and improved humanitarian assistance.
On an international level, the USGLC seeks to root out causes of instability by establishing global partnerships while investing in and deploying assistance programs targeting food and job insecurity in an attempt to increase self-reliance in other nations.
With an inclusive selection of highly-skilled leaders - business, faith, veterans, and community leaders - the USGLC fosters cooperative environments and actively facilitates progress towards honoring the nation’s interests and values, both domestically and abroad.
This is done through lobbying - connecting state leaders and lawmakers - and hosting forums where leaders can collaborate and learn from each other through targeted discussions. In Philadelphia, this was recently carried out through an event, When America Leads, Philadelphia Wins, which was attended by Global Philadelphia Association’s President, Zabeth Teelucksingh, who represented the organization as a sponsor of the event.

At this event on Monday, July 20th, attendees were joined by U.S. Representative Brendan Boyle (D-PA-02) for lunch and a discussion on diplomacy and international security, specifically on how to create opportunities for Pennsylvania businesses to compete on a global stage while increasing quality of life domestically. Boyle emphasized Philadelphia as “the nation’s birthplace” to describe the essential role the city plays in this work. Through this event the USGLC highlighted the importance of “sustained American leadership in the world” and effective ways to encourage individuals and organizations to establish themselves in their respective sectors.
Notably, the USGLC also runs a special operation known as the Global Impact Project. This project unites American businesses and universities with the government in an effort to tackle global challenges, including instability and poverty, which threaten democracy and millions of lives across the globe. With already apparent results, the USGLC aims to combat humanitarian crises, global health threats, and climate disasters with sustainable solutions led by America through this initiative.
The United States Global Leadership Coalition holds a critical role in uniting the nation to create a better future for Americans and global citizens by furthering human rights and diplomacy through multilateral cooperation. Global Philadelphia is proud to continue our partnership with the USGLC as they bolster Philadelphia’s international status.
