This summer, American Airlines added three new nonstop international routes to Nice, France; Naples, Italy; and Copenhagen, Denmark. These additional routes bring Philadelphia International Airport’s total nonstop service to twenty-nine international year-round and seasonal destinations.

American resumed usual service between PHL and San Antonio in early June, which will continue until September 3rd.

“American has expressed its commitment to Philadelphia as its transatlantic hub and the addition of these new routes for summer 2024 is proof of that commitment,” PHL CEO Atif Saeed said in a press release. “As the only American hub serving Copenhagen, Nice and Naples, PHL looks forward to welcoming both an increased number of international guests, as well as domestic passengers making connections to those amazing cities.”

Flights have operated since early spring and will continue until October. American has not decided whether the flights will be operated again next year, citing that it’s still too early to announce its 2025 plans. According to PHL, there have been 11,595,633 arriving and departing domestic and international passengers at PHL this year—up 9.4% from the same period last year.

“With these three new destinations, American will offer service to 14 European destinations nonstop from Philadelphia next year, marking our largest transatlantic schedule from PHL since 2019,” said Lakshman Amaranayaka, Vice President of PHL Hub Operations.

As a World Heritage City, Philadelphia’s tourism industry plays a critical role in its economy and cultural exchange. The city’s rich history, vibrant arts scene, and diverse culinary offerings attract visitors from around the globe, fostering international connections that are vital for cultural understanding and economic growth. Enhancing its status as a global destination, the expansion of international routes not only boosts tourism but also strengthens Philadelphia's position on the world stage, enabling more people to experience its unique heritage and contributing to a thriving local economy.
