The Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia is an annual celebration of the friendship between Japan and the United States, which also recognizes the Japanese community in the Philadelphia region. Each year, the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia organizes a myriad of cultural performances and demonstrations, local vendors, and speeches from community leaders. If you happened to miss the event or just want to relive it, local film production company and Subaru partner CinemaCake has captured every moment through its newly released festival commercial.

The 2026 festival marked the Sakura Centennial, 100 years since Japan gifted our city 1,600 trees in honor of 150 years since the United States gained independence. GPA attended the event to experience firsthand the spirit of friendship, cultural appreciation, and celebration.

Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park came alive on the last weekend of March as visitors enjoyed the  festivities. The eye-catching imagery of the blooming cherry blossoms, the diverse crowds filling the immense park, and the elements of Japanese culture interspersed throughout the festival were brilliantly showcased by CinemaCake.

CinemaCake’s filmmaking showcased both the expanse of the festival as it filled the park as well as the minute details, from the joy on children’s faces as they enjoyed a Japanese dish to the intricate movements and costume details of performers. Viewers can also hear the powerful messages from speakers, such as Mayor Cherelle Parker, as they welcomed guests and celebrated the enduring spirit of friendship and cultural heritage that defines the event.

The experience of the film production company is evident. CinemaCake has operated out of the Greater Philadelphia region for 25 years, originally building its reputation through private event filmmaking before expanding into partnerships with corporations, nonprofits, and cultural organizations to produce impactful commercial and documentary-style content.

Over the years, CinemaCake’s team has produced films for some of Philadelphia’s most respected institutions. They documented the excitement of Penn’s Wharton School of Business’ Ideathon and CEO Summit, emphasizing the strength of Philadelphia’s education and business sectors. Through partnerships with The Barnes Foundation and the African American Museum of Philadelphia, CinemaCake has helped tell the stories of some of our city’s most recognizable cultural institutions.

Their coverage of the 2016 Philly Fights Cancer gala captured the efforts of Penn Medicine and the Abramson Cancer Center in raising critical funds for cancer research, while featuring performances from artists like Lionel Richie and John Legend. In addition, CinemaCake produced a feature on Jesse Dameron, GPA member and award-winning Philadelphia-based mentalist and illusionist.

Their local roots gives CinemaCake an edge in the film production industry of the region. Founded by Dave and Sheryl Wiliams, who continue to run the business today in their respective creative and production roles, CinemaCake has spent 25 years helping organizations tell meaningful stories while continually evolving its creative reach.
