Global Philadelphia Association Announces Former Mayor Michael Nutter as Honoree for the 2023 World Heritage City Celebration

The former two-term mayor of Philadelphia will receive a Globy Award for Distinguished Global Leadership.

Philadelphia, PA (June 16, 2023) – Global Philadelphia Association (GPA) announces today that the former mayor of Philadelphia, Michael A. Nutter will be the honoree at this year’s 2023 World Heritage City Celebration and be presented with a Globy Award for Distinguished Global Leadership. The recognition spotlights Nutter’s accomplished career, including his successful bid in making Philadelphia the first World Heritage City in the United States. 

"Michael Nutter's remarkable tenure as Philadelphia's mayor showcased his dedication to fostering progress, innovation, and cultural preservation,” said Zabeth Teelucksingh, President of Global Philadelphia Association. “With his unwavering commitment, Nutter spearheaded the effort that led Philadelphia to become the first World Heritage City in the United States, solidifying its place among the most iconic and culturally significant destinations in the world.” 

Michael A. Nutter is a former two-term mayor of Philadelphia who previously spent nearly 15 years in the Philadelphia City Council. Since leaving public office in 2016, he has remained active in public policy, government, and civic life, maintaining major involvement in the corporate community and academic institutions across the country. The eighth annual World Heritage City celebration will be held on September 7, bringing together a collection of civic, business, and community leaders, to honor Philadelphia’s recognition as the first World Heritage City in the country. The event will also join 330 other global cities in marking “Solidarity Day of World Heritage Cities,” a day honoring global heritage and the impact they have had on their respective regions.
