Sponsorship Invitation Celebration September 8th 2016

The Philadelphia World Heritage Dinner on September 8, 2016, in honor of Philadelphia, the Nation’s First World Heritage City, and in celebration of “Solidarity Day of the World Heritage Cities”

Date: Thursday, September 8, 2016, 6:00-10:00 p.m.
Location: Crystal Tea Room, Wanamaker Building

On November 6, 2015, Philadelphia became a World Heritage City. This unique and prestigious distinction was based on the City’s having a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site in the form of Independence Hall and becoming a full Member of the Organization of the World Heritage Cities (OWHC). It was the first U.S. city to have been accepted for membership.

An extraordinary array of opportunities comes with this status: ranging from increases in tourism to the siting of conventions to the attraction of businesses and investment through Philadelphia’s new and unique relationship with 260-plus of the most important cities in the world. Along the way, preservation of our historic and cultural assets will receive a boost. Furthermore, by envisaging the heritage of every community as an important asset and by seeing in World Heritage an opportunity for our schoolchildren to develop the tools they need to succeed in our globalizing world, the City stands to take a giant step forward onto the global stage. Our city has recently turned some major corners. Now it has a chance to really grow!

It should be no surprise, therefore, that on May 26, 2016, Mayor Kenney declared that day – and in the future every fourth Thursday in May – as Philadelphia World Heritage Day. On this occasion, the Mayor presided over a press conference, unveiled a new World Heritage logo for the City, announced the outline of a World Heritage strategic plan, and raised the flag at City Hall of the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC).

The next big date will be September 8, 2016, the day that the member cities of the OWHC will, in ceremonies held around the world, celebrate their uniqueness and their common bond. This will be Philadelphia’s first chance to do so as a member city, and the Committee has chosen to hold a special dinner on the evening of September 8, 2016 for this purpose. Senator Robert P. Casey and Mayor Jim Kenney have agreed to be Honorary Co-Chairs of the event. The featured dinner speaker will be Philadelphia native and MSNBC Host of “Hard Ball” Chris Matthews. Denis Ricard, the Secretary General of the OWHC, will participate as an honored guest.

This is a major opportunity for all of us. Accordingly, we would like to invite you to take part in this significant occasion – one that is literally going to be celebrated all over the world – and support the transformative World Heritage City Project by becoming a sponsor of this dinner. We will follow up to explore this with you, answer questions, and provide any further information that you might need. Thank you for your consideration
