Teen Workshop Hands on History: Caring for Culture Through Conservation

Teen Workshop

High school students interested in art and science are invited to spend a day of hands-on activities with the Penn Museum’s Conservation Department. Learn about the world of museum conservation—where chemistry, materials science, history, and creativity come together.

Explore current projects in the conservation lab and learn how experts use scientific tools and close visual examination to understand an object’s condition, stabilize fragile pieces, and prevent future deterioration. Examine objects in the galleries, and learn about the conservation techniques that were used to preserve cultural artifacts for the future.
