Save Our Sites Annual 2024 Spring Tour

Celebrating African American Artist Howard Watson, the Two Mole Streets, Demolished and Existing, and the Friends Center Complex.
The Tour shall be conducted Quaker-style with everyone contributing as they are inspired.
The prolific watercolorist, Howard Watson, painted many scenes of Philadelphia’s charming narrow streets. Among these is a painting of the 100 block of S. Mole Street, now unfortunately demolished to make way for Centre Square, the site of the famous clothespin. Fortunately, the 100 block of North Mole Street, similar to the one that was demolished, still exists. The tour will begin inside the adjacent Friends Center Meeting House, where we will be greeted by Erick Emerick, Director of Operations, who will give us a brief tour of the building. Inside the meeting hall, we shall discuss Howard Watson, and celebrate his career as a distinguished artist. Afterward, we shall walk over to Mole Street and tour the intriguing block.
The event shall conclude at the Capriccio Café in lovely, nearby Paul Cret Park for our annual Save Our Sites Celebration. The tour is free, but it is expected that attendees will cover expenses for their own drinks and food, as they desire.
