Re-opening of the Benjamin Rush Garden: New Home of the Bicentennial Bell!

bell garden

Please join Independence Historical Trust and Independence National Historical Park as we officially re-open the newly rehabilitated Benjamin Rush Garden - the new home of the Bicentennial Bell!

In 1976, Queen Elizabeth II presented the Bicentennial Bell at Independence National Historical Park. The Bell was a gift to the People of United States from the People of Great Britain in commemoration of the Bicentennial. For many years, the Bell hung in the tower of the Park's former visitor center on the corner of 3rd and Chestnut. In 2013, it was removed ahead of the demolition of the building and put into storage.

It has been the shared vision of the Trust and the Park to find a new home for the Bell ahead of the nation's next milestone celebration in 2026. We are excited to announce the re-opening of the fully rehabilitated Benjamin Rush Garden - the new home of the Bicentennial Bell!

We hope you're able to join us on Friday, July 12th at 10:00am as we share remarks from the team who helped make this possible. Ribbon cutting to follow.

Light refreshments will be available before the program.

Please RSVP by Monday, July 8th.
