PECO Family Jams: Dandiya with Main Line Indian Association

event flyer

Join the Main Line Indian Association in celebrating Navratri (pronounced nuv-RA-tree). Navratri is a Hindu festival observed across India. It honors the divine feminine and celebrates the goddess Durga (DOOR-gah) through dance, music, ritual, and art. Circular dances performed in the Western state of Gujarat (GOO-jr-aat) are among the most joyful festival traditions. Some of these dances are performed with decorated sticks known as dandiya (DAN-dee-yah). Textile artist and printmaker Meghan Shah will lead a hands-on workshop where participants can decorate their own pair of dandiya sticks to take home.

The Main Line Indian Association fosters local intra- and inter-cultural connections by providing a forum for the fostering and sharing of Indian culture through educational, cultural, and social programs and activities.

Learn about collaborations between Isaiah Zagar, founding artist of the Magic Gardens Museum, and Indian artists during free tours of our fully mosaicked basement at 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 p.m.

PECO Family Jams are PMG’s family-oriented programs held on the second Sunday of every month between noon and 4:00 p.m. Crafts and basement tours are included with regular admission to PMG. Purchase your regular admission tickets in advance.
