Ode to Joy: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9

Beloved by audiences for centuries, Beethoven’s mighty Ninth Symphony brings more power and transcendent beauty than it seems possible for the heart to hold. The Philadelphia Orchestra, led by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, delivers soaring performances featuring some of today’s most powerful voices. The symphony’s choral finale, based on Friedrich Schiller’s Ode to Joy, stands as a moving call for freedom, equality, and unity.

To begin the program, the Orchestra continues its exploration of the works of Florence Price with her Piano Concerto in One Movement, a rediscovered gem that premiered in 1934 and showcases her bright melodies and remarkable talent.
