Event Image

Eligible for 3 AIA credits

This course introduces students to moldings, the building blocks of classical architecture. Students will learn how to categorize and identify classical moldings by geometry and function, and understand their relationship to classical orders. Through drawing exercises, the class will learn how classical moldings can be applied to a traditional wood cornice and an interior elevation.

About the instructor:

Martin Brandwein’s extensive knowledge of classical architecture has allowed his firm, Martin Brandwein Architect (MBA), to approach both the renovation of old buildings and the design of new buildings with care and sensitivity. Yet MBA does not adhere to a set of rigid classical formulas when designing a project. Rather, by carefully listening to the clients’ needs and analyzing the unique context of each project, the firm aims to produce original architectural solutions. This approach, combined with meticulous attention to details and skilled project management, brings each of the firm’s projects to successful completion.

Mr. Brandwein is a member of the American Institute of Architects and a Fellow of the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art. He has also achieved the designation of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional.
