The Christmas Story in Art

event flyer

From the angel’s announcement to Mary, to the Holy Family seeking refuge in Egypt, from angels and shepherds to St Nicholas of Myra, we will engage with art that tells the story of Christmas.

We will notice how each artist locates Bible stories in their own time and place, how artists use light, color, and perspective to communicate the supernatural glory of God’s incarnation, how Jesus’ birth fulfills earlier prophecy and foreshadows later events, and how symbols connect Jesus’ birth to important Christian teachings and practice.

Facilitator: Rev. John B. Hougen, PhD, Art of Interfaith Understanding Coordinator and Volunteer Docent at the PMA.
