About the book

Orisha Tales is a bilingual children’s book series that brings Afro-Cuban and Yoruba-inspired traditions to life through magic and adventure. Its protagonist, Amor, or Amorcito, as her abuelo calls her, is a spirited young girl guided by ancestral wisdom as she faces challenges in her beloved Gilded City. The series explores themes that shake the balance between humanity’s light and darkness.

Through Amor’s journeys, these stories bring culture, resilience, and magic to life for children, families, and teachers. Each book includes a Yoruba glossary, deepening young readers’ connection to language and tradition. In Amor and the Magical River, Philadelphia’s landscapes and environmental challenges shape the story, grounding Amor’s magical world in real-world concerns.

Rooted in cultural memory and enriched with Spanish and Yoruba language, each story invites readers into a vibrant world of music and heritage. From magical forests to mystical rivers, Orisha Tales celebrates the beauty of Caribbean and Latin American traditions while inspiring children to care for their communities and the natural world.

Available in English and Spanish.
