Kaidan: Tales of Moonlight and Rain at Shofuso

Lafcadio Hearn once wrote that “the dead have no shadows”. This fall, we invite you to look closer.
Step through the gates of the historic Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center and into the shadow-laden world of the Heian era. For this exclusive iteration of Kaidan: An Evening of 100 Spirits, we are stripping away the stage to offer a rare, deeply intimate parlor magic and storytelling experience as well as offering a high-end black tie experience for those among you who enjoy the art and artistry of the Japanese folktale.
Intimate Candlelit Parlor Show
Limited to a small circle of guests within the traditional architecture of Shofuso, this performance trades grand spectacle for the chilling precision of close-up illusion and the ancient power of the spoken word. Inspired by the ghostly chronicles of Lafcadio Hearn and Ueda Akinari, Kaidan invites you to witness the impossible just inches from your eyes. Leave the modern world at the garden gate, and prepare to be spirited away. In the quiet halls of Shofuso, the spirits are closer than ever.
