Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Carl Lutz and Diplomatic Rescue in the Holocaust
The Mid-Atlantic - Eurasia Business Council would be delighted to get your involvement in efforts to recognize and commemorate the life and accomplishments of a forgotten hero - Carl Lutz and other diplomats involved in rescue during the Holocaust. Carl Lutz's action of saving more than 60,000 lives during the Holocaust at the time of his tenure as Vice-Consul at the Swiss Embassy in Budapest is considered the greatest civil rescue.
The Mid-Atlantic – Eurasia Business Council is proud to present the exhibition "Visas for Life: The Righteous and Honorable Diplomats" including the celebration of Carl Lutz's centennial of his arrival in Philadelphia. The exhibition, created by Eric Saul, Founder and Executive Director of Visas for Life and the Institute for the Study of Rescue and Altruism in the Holocaust (ISRAH), celebrates the heroic actions of more than 350 diplomats from over 40 countries who risked their lives and careers to save persecuted people during the Holocaust. The "Visas for Life: The Righteous and Honorable Diplomats" exhibition will be extended through Fall 2026 at Congregation Mikveh Israel, 44 N 4th Street, Philadelphia, allowing more members of our community to experience this powerful testament to courage and rescue.
Our exhibition currently combines with the exhibition "Faith & Freedom" presented by Congregation Mikveh Israel celebrating America 250. It features a series of immersive displays exploring the Jewish experience in Revolutionary America and the enduring legacy of Congregation Mikveh Israel, known as the "Synagogue of the American Revolution," the oldest formal congregation in Philadelphia.
On October 23-26, 2026, we will be having special events. The culminating event will include Eric Saul's presentation, remarks, an exhibit tour, and a film screening on October 26. These events will coincide with the World Federation of Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Descendents annual conference which will be held for the first time in Philadelphia.
