The Global Ideas Summit begins at 12 pm, followed by the Globy Awards Ceremony from 1p.m. to 2p.m. The event, which is open to the public, will be held at The Ballroom at The Ben, 834 Chesnut Street, in Philadelphia.
John F. Smith III, Chair of the Global Philadelphia Association, said: "Each year, the Global Philadelphia Association recognizes a select group of people who have led the way in moving Philadelphia forward as a global city. This year, on December 11, five extraordinary Philadelphians will be honored in the Benjamin Franklin Ballroom with the Association's Annual Global Awards. These awards, which have come to be known as the "Globys", have become the region's most distinctive way of recognizing internationally significant achievement in Greater Philadelphia."
These leaders are actively engaged as partners in work directly related to the goals of the World Heritage City Project. Those goals are:
- Promote preservation and appreciation of Philadelphia’s geographical, historical and cultural heritage through the World Heritage City designation and continued education.
- Provide a powerful economic and cultural stimulus to the region.
- Inspire citizens to feel pride in their World Heritage City.
GPA Executive Director Zabeth Teelucksingh said, “The five distinguished leaders that we are honoring represent exemplary leadership of important organizations in our city and region."
“The GPA has enjoyed a banner year as we showcased our World Heritage City during our third GlobalPhilly Expo,” Teelucksingh added noting the success of the GlobalPhilly 2017, a 45 day exposition that showcased the Greater Philadelphia region’s international diversity and heritage through 150 events presented by GPA’s member organizations.
GPA members receive one free ticket per organization for the Global Ideas Summit and Globy Awards Ceremony, which is open to the public. GPA members may purchase additional tickets for $35; the price for non-members is $45. All are welcome.
