Global Philadelphia Association Names McNeill Board Chair

Chair Smith to become Chair Emeritus and Senior Advisor

PHILADELPHIA —The Board of Directors of Global Philadelphia Association (GPA) has voted unanimously to name Deloitte Greater Philadelphia Managing Partner Robert J. McNeill as the association’s new chairman. McNeill was previously vice chairman of Global Philadelphia Association; he succeeds John F. Smith III, who will step down as chairman in January 2019 and will serve in an emeritus role and as a senior advisor.

“As a native of the Greater Philadelphia region, it is an honor to lead Global Philadelphia as we continue to advance the city as a global destination and a region of global impact,” McNeill said. “Philadelphia is the first World Heritage City in the U.S. and I look forward to leveraging our World Heritage City strategic plan into increased value for Greater Philadelphia. I also want to thank John Smith for his invaluable service as founding board chair for the past nine years.”

As managing partner of Deloitte’s Greater Philadelphia practice, McNeill drives the organization’s national strategy for growth, client service, corporate citizenship and inclusion into the local marketplace. He oversees more than 1,750 professionals delivering industry-leading audit, consulting, tax and advisory services. He also serves several of Deloitte’s key clients.

McNeill earned his bachelor’s degree from Villanova University and serves on the dean’s advisory council to the Villanova University School of Business. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. McNeill is a past chair of the board of directors of the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia, and he currently serves on their board of directors. He also serves on the advisory board of Drexel University’s Center for Corporate Governance and the board of directors for United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. He is a 2016 recipient of the GPA’s annual Globy Awards for leadership in advancing Greater Philadelphia on the world stage.
