Description: The Insurance Company of North America (INA) is the oldest capital stock insurance company in the United States. Founded in 1792 and incorporated in 1794, the company pioneered many forms of insurance, in particular marine underwriting. INA was also the first American firm to insure the contents of houses against fire, in addition to the structures themselves. This imposing 16-story steel-framed office building, faced in brick with limestone trim, was completed in 1925 as the company’s ninth home office.
