Guided Search: National Security, Investors

Hosted in partnership with the Foreign Policy Research Institute, America Georgia Business Council's conference will look at the growing relationship between the United States and Georgia. It will examine how the US and Georgia work together in security, trade and investment, and how to manage shared challenges.

For nearly 40 years, GIC has been a proponent of open and free trade. This year’s AMT conference, held in partnership with Drexel University's LeBow College of Business, will focus on the potential impacts of mega trade agreements such as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Three panels will highlight macro-level as well as sectoral impacts on the economy.

Cyber security is not something many of us think about every day. But — as recent international “hacking” events show — it is all around us. More and more personal data is being put online, from personal records to medical information to payment details. But the internet respects no country’s boundary. This conference will focus on the geopolitical, legal and technical aspects of cyber security in the modern world.

Why did the Soviet Union collapse? The dissolution of the USSR is particularly puzzling because China -- also a Marxist-Leninist autocracy -- managed to ditch its centrally-planned economy while maintaining an authoritarian political structure. Christopher Miller’s research in Soviet archives has found that Soviet officials closely followed Chinese policy, and directly copied many Chinese reforms.
