ACANA Bicentennial
"Liberia celebrating 200 year bicenntenial: an intellectual discourse of history and culture"
A live virtual event, hosted on Africa Day, for the bicentennial celebration of the country of Liberia’s liberation featuring Liberian historians and scholars from Lincoln University, Cheyney University, and Temple University. This will be a live virtual event positioned on the GPA website ( and many social media platforms.
The partner event between ACANA and GPA is part of a year-long series of events commemorating 200 years of the arrival of Free Black Americans on the shores of West Africa, resulting in the establishment of the Republic of Liberia, West Africa. The celebration of this historic moment in the Republic of Liberia and U.S. history is sponsored by the Mayor’s Commission on African and Caribbean Immigrant Affairs, the US-Liberia Chamber of Commerce, Liberian Ministers Alliance in North America (LMANA), African Cultural Alliance of North America (ACANA), other leading organizations and the African diaspora community. The panel discussion will provide an opportunity to understand the historic roots between Philadelphia and Liberia and the establishment of institutions such as Lincoln University and Cheyney University, connecting Philadelphia to Liberia. The panelists will also explore the gaps and the future of enhancing and strengthening relationships between Liberia, Philadelphia, and its people.
