The nation’s oldest outdoor continuous market will host its highly- anticipated annual festival on Saturday, May 19th and Sunday May 20th from 10am to 5pm, rain or shine. For the past 10 years, the city’s biggest block party has run along South 9th Street, from Fitzwater to Federal Streets as a time honored South Philly tradition. This year's events include DJ Johnny Looch and other musical guests, Procession of Saints parade, and a Family Fun Zone.
2012 Italian Market Festival Highlights:
- Live Entertainment – Three stages of music to suit all tastes and get everyone partying in the streets. The festival Main Stage (9th & Washington Streets) features WMGK classic rock and party bands; the Anthony‘s Italian Coffee House Stage (9th & Christian Streets) will have DJ Johnny Looch spinnin’ 9th Street dance and party favorites and the 9th & Federal Street live DJ will be playing whatever they feel like throughout the course of the two day Festival.
- Procession of Saints – Held Sunday, May 20th at 11 am, this annual tradition, the St. Paul Parish Procession of Saints starts at Saint Mary Magdalen Church (712 Montrose Street) and pauses for the Blessing of the Market at 9th and Washington Streets, ending at Saint Paul Catholic Church (corner of S. Hutchinson and Christian Streets).
