The Second Decade of Homeland Security: Protecting America’s Birthplace

Date:
Thursday, May 16, 2013 - 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Location:
One South Broad Street Suite 2M
Philadelphia, PA 19107
United States

In the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings, city officials, police departments and security personnel across the country – and around the world – have begun to reassess current protocol to address similar crowd-gathering events and the possible need to upgrade and/or revamp systems in place. Although authorities have questioned the ability to secure miles of spectator routes for an event such as a marathon, attention is being directed to means of preventing similar attacks and protecting citizens.

Key stakeholders from local government and law enforcement will join the World Affairs Council to discuss security measures currently in place for the Philadelphia area, as well as new practices that are now under consideration.

Joining in the discussion are:

Edward J. Hanko, Special Agent in Charge, FBI Philadelphia Office

Thomas F. Minton, III, Director, Pennsylvania Governor’s Office of Homeland Security

Joe Sullivan, Chief Inspector and Commanding Officer of Homeland Security and Counter Terrorism, Philadelphia Police Department
