https://www.elfrethsalley.org/ The Elfreth’s Alley Museum is mounting an exhibit of work by photographer Dilmar Gamero beginning May 6 and extending into June 2022. For this show, “The Power of Experimentation at Elfreth’s Alley,” Gamero has been producing work which utilizes a variety of techniques, both high-tech (randomized computer processes, augmented reality) and low-tech (pinhole photography, solar photography), and which is in conversation with Elfreth’s Alley’s past.
The work focuses especially on the sorts of people–a Black washerwoman, an eleven-year-old factory worker, unmarried women–who have been historically at the margins of the historic record.
Gamero’s work will be situated within the Elfreth Alley Museum, alongside the historical exhibits, giving visitors another way to engage with the history of the street and its residents. Many of the pieces explicitly refer to the Museum’s podcast, The Alley Cast, giving visitors a path for further learning.
The show opens with a reception on May 6 at 6:30pm, which will be free to the public. Subsequently, the full show will be accessible with admission to the Elfreth’s Alley Museum ($3) through at least June.
