Gwynedd Mercy University is pleased to announce the upcoming Fall Cultural event featuring a world music program with performers from the Mongolian Cultural Center in Washington, DC. The program will highlight traditional music and dance from Mongolia, the home of Chinggis Khan. They are especially known for their acapella arrangements using “khöömei” or “throat-singing,” an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and the instrumental music on the horse-head fiddle.
Singer
Saran Erdenebat, was a leading singer in the opera company in Ulaanbaatar. She made her debut at Carnegie Hall in 2010. Her numerous roles included Cio Cio San in "Madama Butterfly". She earned a masters degree from the Peabody Conservatory. Now she sings in concerts and also teaches voice.
Musician
Khatanbold Urlagbaatar received his masters degree in music as a soloist in Horse Head Fiddle performance in 2015 at Mongolian University of Arts and Culture (Ulaanbaatar). He currently resides in Virginia. He will present the Mongolian Traditional music of Morin khuur (horsehead fiddle).
Dancer
Delgermaa Batchuluun, 1985 enrolled in Dance school of the Dance and Music College. Graduated in 1992 to join National Folk Song and Dance Ensemble. Toured with and attended various festivals and international performances with the Ensemble in Japan, Korea, China, Germany, Taiwan and etc. Performed at the Silk Road Festival of 2003 in Washington DC. Danced as a lead dancer in the role of Tsetseg in the famous dance musical production "Legend of the Sun". Performs solo well known traditional dances such as Uzbek, Mongolian Lady, Bayad, Durvud dance with a bowl, and Mongolian Bielgee.
