http://raicesculturales.org This Friday, May 31st, 2013, Raíces Culturales Latinoamericanas (Raíces) presents its third Tertulia program of 2013 on the experiences and talents of female artists who are from Latin America or are inspired by the continent. Through this event, Raíces hopes to bring into focus the global effects that culture, gender, and/or migration have on the women who make art an integral part of their life while showcasing their many talents.
The May Tertulia will feature three artists with varying levels of life experience and artistic expressions. Katherine Gould-a student at Pig Iron Theater School, will present a widely reviewed spoken word from the point of view of a women living in Argentina during the time of Los Desparecidos. Yajaira Paredes-a Venezuelan actress with 18 years of experience- will present samples of her works and commenting on her experiences on being both immigrant and artist in a new country. Magdaliz Roura – the backbone of Latin Ensemble Tri Crisol- will end the night by showcasing her musical talents with the aid of her percussionist.
ABOUT TERTULIA
On the last Friday of every other month, Raíces presents its signature Tertulia. This event – generally for adults only- is one of Raíces' most popular programs that presents lectures and discussions on cultural topics. During each Tertulia, after the invited guests' presentation and open public discussions, the microphone is opened to any individual or group who would like to share their talents in music, poetry, dance, etc. Raíces calls this cultural encounter in the café atmosphere "a retreat for the soul."
