Date:
Saturday, October 11, 2014 - 10:00am - 5:00pm
Location:
PHS Meadowbrook Farm, 1633 Washington Lane, Meadowbrook, PA 19046
United States

Visitors will enjoy the beauty of autumn and amazing plants and activities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Meadowbrook Farm retail garden center, gift shop, and estate home.

A highlight of the day will be a ceremony at 11 a.m. to “flip the switch” on the new solar panels donated to Meadowbrook by Green Mountain Energy Sun Club, a partner of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. Solar power now provides renewable energy for the Meadowbrook greenhouses.

Visitors at the Open House will find fall favorites in the sales yard, including pansies and violas, cool weather herbs, kale, ornamental grasses, combination planters, and PHS Gold Medal Plants, which are chosen for their beauty and hardy nature. Fall is a great time for planting perennials like Montauk Daisy, goldenrod and agastache, all with stunning fall color. Among the featured plants will be the Digiplexis ‘Illumination Flame,’ the PHS Hot List winner. Currently in full bloom, this plant will add a bright burst of color to a fall garden.

PHS Members always save 10% on plants at Meadowbrook. For one day only, Saturday, October 11, PHS members will save 20% on their plant purchase. Visitors who join or renew a PHS membership on site that day will receive a $10 coupon (valid toward their purchase that day).

Shoppers can choose from a variety of specialty pumpkins including fairytale, peanut and Jarrahdale blue, as well as gooseneck gourds and mini pumpkins to brighten the home and garden. The gift shop will offer cool garden accents, candles, and fragrances to welcome the fall season. Guests will also find all the tools and goods they need for putting their gardens to rest for the season.
Families can enjoy an array of activities: hayrides, pumpkin painting, face painting, a scavenger hunt, an obstacle course, and a tree-climbing activity with Bartlett Tree Experts. Kids can also send orange orbs soaring at the popular pumpkin launch. Activity tickets can be purchased on site (cash only). Family-friendly food with a modern farm-to-table flare will also be available from Seedling and Sage. For a special treat, lemon sticks (half of a lemon with sugar and a candy stick) will be on the menu. Craft beers will be served from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (cash only).
