Does your family have a recipe for rice, beans, or both? This workshop includes quick cooking demos and tips, tastings, and conversations that focus on rice and beans recipes from Puerto Rico, ranging from staple and comfort foods to celebratory dishes. As we learn about these dishes and eat, participants will be invited to share their own recipes and memories connected to cooking.
This event is for all ages; children and caregivers welcome. Inspired by the One Book, One Philadelphia 2022 selection, My Broken Language, this workshop is presented by GUSTO. Gusto presents unique events celebrating Philadelphia’s vast Latinx culinary community, spotlighting delicious flavors and food traditions from Latin America and the Caribbean.
Facilitating chef Amy Nassar is the founder of Amy's Pastelillos, which brings familiar and nostalgic flavors to the masses and spotlights Puerto Rican cuisine that often goes unnoticed in Philadelphia's foodspace.
