Celebrating Black Botanists & Harriet Tubman Read-Aloud

This virtual program is part of the 27th Annual Greater Philadelphia MLK Day of Service event. Museum Educator Cris Juarez will explore the groundbreaking scientific contributions of Black botanists such as Dr. Marie Clark Taylor, Edmond Albius, and George Washington Carver. The talk will also touch on the work of Dr. Tanisha Williams, botanist, ecologist, and creator of the Black Botanist Week hashtag. The program will conclude with a read-aloud from the children's book "Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led her People to Freedom" and discuss how Harriet Tubman used her knowledge of plants to help herself and others escape slavery.
