Global Philadelphia Association Welcomes International Students and Scholars at Penn Museum

Kathleen Quigley, for GPA -- The grand Chinese Rotunda and other famous galleries of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology were filled with visitors on October 5 for the University of Pennsylvania's annual International Students and Scholars Welcoming Reception.

In its 43rd year, the event was open not just to students and scholars affiliated with UPenn, but to Philadelphia’s greater global academic community. Treated to food, entertainment, and formal welcomes by a number of honorable guests, Global Philadelphia Association was proud to greet those gathered at the Penn Museum.

Equipped with brochures to distribute and an iPad to demonstrate the GPA website, the Association’s Executive, Media, and Public Relations Directors were on hand to meet the large number of visitors from nearly every continent who stopped by the Global Philadelphia Association Table.

As part of a Facebook campaign, dozens of attendees took pictures with a sign especially designed for the event, bearing the phrase “I am a Global Philadelphian”. When the photos were posted to GPA’s Facebook page, many new people signed on and “tagged” themselves with the GPA sign in the foreground.

The October 5 event at the Penn Museum represented a perfect opportunity for Global Philadelphia Association to interact face to face with a slightly younger population of new Philadelphia citizens, all of whom are "global" in their own right. Hopefully GPA will be able to exercise the same privilege of welcoming international students and scholars at the Penn Museum in 2013.
