The PRISM Quartet is thrilled to be in residence at Temple University Boyer College of Music and Dance in Philadelphia on April 25 and 26, where ensemble member Matthew Levy teaches saxophone and chamber music. The residency culminates in two performances that are free and open to the public. On April 25th, 6 PM at Rock Hall (1715 North Broad Street), PRISM presents a recital of music written for the Quartet by David Serkin Ludwig, Emma O’Halloran, Roshanne Etezady, Zach Browning, Tim Ries, Jennifer Higdon, Renée Favand-See, Frank J. Oteri, and Gregory Wanamaker. Guest saxophonist and Temple jazz faculty member Chris Oatts joins PRISM for two additional works from the Quartet’s Heritage/Evolution project: Improvisations by Chris Potter and Forbidden Drive by Matthew Levy. On April 26th, 6:15 PM at Temple Performing Arts Center (1837 N. Broad St.), PRISM joins the Temple University Wind Symphony under Dr. Patricia Cornett in a performance of William Bolcom’s Concerto Grosso for Saxophone Quartet, commissioned by PRISM and premiered in its original orchestral version with the Detroit Symphony in 2000. The program also includes works by Joan Tower, Richard Wagner, and David Maslanka.

The residency includes a wide range of activities: masterclasses, a “Technology and Recording” seminar, an entrepreneurship workshop on “Starting Your Own Record Label,” a composer reading, and several open rehearsals. Saxophonists from throughout the region are invited to observe all of PRISM’s residency services free of charge. No tickets or registration needed. Just show up with a valid ID, required for building admittance. Click HERE or scroll down for the complete schedule.
