Philadelphia Joins with the World for Peace Day 2011

“As we look forward to the United Nations International Day of Peace, we must focus on creating a unified community where people feel safe. Peace Day is an opportunity to participate in events across the city that promote peace and non-violence.”

The International Day of Peace (Peace Day) is a global day of ceasefire & non-violence observed by millions worldwide on September 21. On Peace Day’s 30th anniversary, September 21, 2011, Philadelphia individuals, schools and organizations will join with the world by actively participating in a wide range of peace and non-violence activities. Peace Day – Philly 2011, an initiative in affiliation with the United Nations Association of Greater Philadelphia and the Alliance for a Sustainable Future, will also be offering several events on September 21st, free & open to the public, including:

  • “Peace Talks” about creative community rebuilding in international contexts, featuring musician and humanitarian Sharon Katz (1:00pm)
  • Envisioning a world beyond nuclear weapons and arms, featuring Bill Hartung (3:00pm)

These “Peace Talks” will be held at the Creese Student Center, 3210 Chestnut Street, and are in partnership with Drexel’s Office of International Programs.

A “Bridges to Peace” music & dialogue program at 7:30pm, in partnership with Intercultural Journeys and featuring co-founder and Philadelphia Orchestra cellist Udi Bar-David, will be offered at the Ethical Society, 1906 South Rittenhouse Square.
