In celebration of the 200th birthday of Charles Dickens in 2012, the Free Library of Philadelphia is planning a “Year of Dickens” to showcase the library’s vast collection of his work through special events and festive programs. Join the Free Library of Philadelphia on June 21, for a discussion of Great Expectations, Charles Dickens’s thirteenth novel and one of his most well-known. Dickens Literary Salons are free and open to the public but registration is required.

While at the Dickens Literary Salon, explore the Free Library's Rare Book Department where you will find one of the largest collections of all things Dickens outside of Britain, including a digital collection of selected letters, manuscripts, illustrations, his writing desk and pet raven.

More events are being planned for the "Year of Dickens," so keep checking the Free Library's Website for updates.

The Free Library's Rare Books Department is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Saturday, with general tours of the collections at 11:00 AM.
