Emerging Issues in Science Series, #1: Immunotherapy: Is the Cure Inside You?

Thursday, November 19, 2015 - 5:30pm - 7:30pm
The Wistar Institute 3601 Spruce Street Philadelphia, PA, 19104
United States

In this first installment of the Emerging Issues in Science series, a panel of Wistar immunologists sheds light on the exciting and much-publicized field of cancer immunotherapy.

Dr. Dario Altieri, Wistar president and CEO, moderates a lively conversation with Drs. Dmitry Gabrilovich, Erica Stone and Scott Hensley on the latest breakthroughs in cancer immunotherapy and how harnessing our bodies’ own immune system is revolutionizing the way researchers understand and attack cancer.

They’ll discuss the latest immunotherapy drugs, a red hot topic in cancer research that’s garnering worldwide interest for their ability to “melt” tumors in patients who had long fought cancer and seemed to have few options left.

Check out recent news featuring the amazing work taking place to harness the immune system in The Washington Post, LiveScience.com, Vox.com, CNN.com, and Forbes Magazine.

Our Emerging Issues in Science series is designed to provide the lay person with opportunities for gaining insight into topics that are on the frontier of biomedical research and of current national interest. Presentations are made by world-renowned Wistar scientists and other experts in the field. Please check back for more information about this new scientific discussion series.
